Tarot talk: suits

The Tarot deck associates closely with a regular deck of playing cards. Contrary to popular belief, the Tarot possess no special powers of their own. In fact, cartomancy (divination using a deck of cards) can be done with various decks, including regular playing cards. Each of the four suits in Tarot is associated with an element, astrological signs (based on elements), direction, season and a ruling area of life.  Additionally, each of the four suits of in Tarot (Wands, Pentacles, Wands and Cups) aligns with a suit in the regular playing cards (Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts and Spades). Just like two people may extract different meanings from the same book, two readers may interpret the Tarot differently. This extends to the correlation of Suits between the two. I prefer to follow the association of suits established by A.E. Waite in "The Pictorial Key to the Tarot."
